Texans vs Jaguars – CJ’s Take:

Since he became coach of the Texans, Bill O’Brien has won all four games against the Jaguars, by an average margin of 13.8 points per game. Over on the other side line, Jacksonville coach Gus Bradley may well be on the hot seat, as his team is just not doing enough to win games. And perhaps the surprise here is that the job isn’t getting done on offense.Jacksonville has to cut down on silly turnovers; they fumbled the ball away three times against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, and as we will explain to you in a moment, that is what really constituted the difference in the game.

Jacksonville’s defense has actually been something encouraging for their fans to look at. Bradley, as most people know, was the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks before taking this job as the head man, and the front office spent some money to bring new personnel in. The result is that this team ranks first in the NFL, giving up only 9.5 yards per pass completion, and they’re the fifth the best defense in the league in terms of preventing touchdowns in the red zone. Against Kansas City, they allowed only 10 first downs and 231 total yards, and the Chiefs converted only one of their 14 third-down opportunities. But those fumbles were not anything that helped. And quarterback Blake Bortles completed only 22 of his 41 passes.

VietBet patrons also saw that running back Chris iIory, who was supposed to be a very important off-season pickup for the Jaguars, finally contributed something significant to the offense, with 107 yards on the ground. Executing on that side of the ball has been a problem, so Bradley made the change to a new offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett. We’re still looking for an overal improvement.

Houston quarterback Brock Osweiler was embarrassed in his last road game, as he visited Denver and was shut down by his former teammates with the Broncos. He signed a contract for a lot of money as a free agent, but his numbers aren’t strong. Osweiler has completed only 59% of his passes, for only 5.9 yards per attempt, and with his nine touchdown passes, he has also thrown nine interceptions. We imagine that Jacksonville’s defense, which has allowed opposition passers to throw for just 6.2 yards per attempt, might have some success against him.

Next up for both teams:

  • Houston at Oakland Monday, November 21
  • Jacksonville at Detroit Sunday, November 20
