Redskins vs Ravens October 9th, 2016 Week 5 NFL Betting PreviewThe Washington Redskins at least give the appearance of a team that is starting to turn the corner a little. If you recall, last year they had a big surge at the end to capture the title in the NFC East, where there was not a lot of overall strength. Now, sporting a record of 2-2, they travel up the highway a little and land in M & T Bank Stadium, as they take on the Baltimore Ravens in a game that begins at 1 PM ET Sunday. Fox Network will televise the game on a regional basis, and those people who are signed up with an account at VietBet can get the benefit of being able to challenge the NFL betting lines in real time, as they appear through the dynamic software of Live Betting Ultra.

Redskins vs Ravens – CJ’s Take:

Yes, some of the things are coming together for the Redskins. Kirk Cousins was not very good in the first couple weeks of the season, but he has come back with two very solid efforts against the Giants and Browns in come-from-behind victories. And this team got the benefit of a running game last week, as Matt Jones rambled for 117 yards. That’s exactly what they need to balance out this West Coast offense.

The Ravens won their first three games and then faltered against the Oakland Raiders, dropping a 28-27 decision at home. What they don’t like to see is Joe Flacco putting the ball up 52 times and making himself vulnerable to opposition pass rushes for no reason, considering he is still recovering from an ACL tear that ended his season late in the schedule in 2015. So running the ball will be very important, which is why Terrence West has to be recognized for delivering big time last week, with 21 carries for 113 yards.

One of the nice stories for the Ravens this season is Steve Smith, who reversed field on his retirement, which was spoiled by an injury and has come back to lead the team in receiving. Smith had 111 yards last week and totals 281 for the season. One thing that is different about the Baltimore passing attack is that there is a genuine deep threat, and Mike Wallace appears to have found a little bit of chemistry with Flacco.

Cousins is playing under control for the Redskins, and it helps that he can distribute just about equally to any of four different receivers. DeSean Jackson is the guy who has made his catches count the most, averaging 16.2 yards, and of course, tight end Jordan Reed is an absolute stud (26 receptions, 263 yards).

VietBet patrons, in watching this game, should understand that Baltimore’s game plan is to leave Washington with really only one option at its disposal. That means stopping the run first, and indeed, the Ravens have done a great job in that regard, holding the opposition to just nine first downs on the ground. When you look at the numbers, they have outgained the opposition by 90 yards a game and have registered a +7 margin per game in first downs. Those are great numbers, but the offense has not shown much explosiveness, which doesn’t give them a lot of room for error. So a team like Oakland, who doesn’t stop punching until the very end, was never out of the game last week, and eventually prevailed. What the Redskins have to do is to put a lot of pressure on that secondary, and Jackson and Reed, along with Jamison Crowder and Pierre Garcon, have the capability of doing that.

Next up for both teams:

  • The Redskins host Philadelphia Sunday, October 16th
  • The Ravens visit the NY Jets Sunday, October 16th
