Ravens vs Giants October 16th, 2016 – Week 6 NFL Betting Preview

Ravens vs Giants October 16th, 2016 Week 6 NFL Betting PreviewThe New York Giants have demonstrated one thing thus far in the NFL season – they are still quite a way from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. However, the NFC East is competitive enough where they aren’t far out of the race at all, but they must take advantage of their opportunities to win games at home. After taking the show on the road the last two weeks and losing to NFC North teams, they must play another bruising foe on Sunday as they take on the Baltimore Ravens in a game that will begin at 1 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. This is a game that will be televised regionally on CBS, and while VietBet patrons are watching it, they can also wager on it, using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.

Ravens vs Giants – CJ’s Take:

There appears to be little doubt that the Giants are a better defensive team and they were last season, but then again, the standard wasn’t that high to exceed. They were, quite simply, awful on the stop end, and the infusion of some new talent has helped them, especially when it comes to defending the running game. But they have also suffered some attrition in the secondary, and you always have to check the injury reports to see who is and is not available. In last Sunday night’s game, Green Bay had a little more than 400 total yards on offense, and the Giants were simply not in a position to keep up the pace. Hence, the 23-16 defeat, which was a “push” for many online sports bettors.

The Ravens are seemingly always in games that come down to the wire. They looked like they might be in control for at least half the game last week against the visiting Washington Redskins, but they allowed Washington to score ten unanswered points in the third quarter and did not come back with any scoring drives in the final stanza. Despite the fact that they had a decided edge in rushing yards, Baltimore fell by a 16-10 score. They are standing at 3-2, which is only one game off the lead in the AFC North, but there has to be at least some concern over the fact that they have scored just one offensive touchdown in three of their five games.

One thing you’re going to have to check on later in the week is the availability of Steve Smith, who had to leave last Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Smith has been an interesting story, in that he had announced his retirement before last season and was going through a “farewell tour” of sorts, but then had that spoiled by a season-ending injury. He did not want to leave it like that, so he decided to come back for another season, and Baltimore looked like it had a very deep group of receivers. Hey – that might still be the case, but it’s not producing a whole lot in the way of TD’s. Through five games, they are averaging a little less than 19 points. But, if the Giants are still suffering at the safety position, they can threaten this, with the presence of Mike Wallace, who has been at a few NFL stops, the last couple of them without a whole lot of success, but has already hooked up with quarterback Joe Flacco on a few big plays.

VietBet patrons are well aware that New York is having a heckuva time moving the football on the ground. While Eli Manning is pretty good at getting rid of the ball quickly, they still need at least some semblance of a ground attack in order to keep opposing defenses honest. We’ll see about the progress of Rashad Jennings, who is the best running back they have left, but we are also very interested in rookie Paul Perkins, who has the kind of “burst” that the other Giants running backs do not possess.

If you are following football betting trends, please take note that the Giants have played 27 of their last 40 games “under” the total, and many reasonable people would conclude that the pattern of what they are doing suggests some low-scoring games; that is, the inability to sustain scoring drives, as well as some better performances from the stop end. And of course, we have already covered Baltimore’s offense, which has sputtered all too often.

Next up for both teams:

  • The Ravens visit the Jets Sunday, October 23rd
  • The Giants visit the Rams Sunday, October 23rd
