Monday Night Football – Back Stories Abound in Rams vs 49ers Matchup

Rams vs 49ers September 12th, 2016 Week 1 NFL Betting PreviewWell, it didn’t take too much time for the Rams to make their move from St. Louis to Los Angeles, and with some of the new people they have available, there’s a lot of optimism that this team could make a move in the NFC West division. But the real transformation is taking place in San Francisco, where the 49ers will be adapting to a new coach and a new system. Chip Kelly, who was fired toward the end of last season by the Philadelphia Eagles, is the new boss in the Bay Area, and he leads his team against the transplanted Los Angeles entry in the second half of the Monday night doubleheader, scheduled to kick off at 10:20 PM ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Remember that if you are a VietBet customer, you don’t have to stop the action at the opening kickoff; rather, you can keep it going in real time through the facilities of Live Betting Ultra.

Rams vs 49ers – A Closer Look at the Los Angeles Rams:

The Rams finished 7-9 last season, struggling at the quarterback position, but unveiling a potentially dominant running back in Todd Gurley, who was the NFL’s rookie of the year. Undoubtedly Gurley is going to be the man around whom this offense is built, at least at the start of the season, coach Jeff Fisher will be going with journeymen Case Keenum, who threw 125 passes with the team last season. Keenum will hold the job until such time as Jared Goff, the #1 overall pick in the draft, is ready to take control of the offense. Goff is said to have enormous potential, but he did not play in a pro-style system at the University of California, so there is some major adjustment to be made on his part.

The Rams will likely give San Francisco a number of different looks out of their offense, and Tavon Austin, one of the wide receivers, has proven to be a pretty versatile guy, as he can run out of the backfield as well. Austin gained 434 yards on the ground last season, averaging a very slick 8.3 yards per carry. Considering that he only averaged 9.1 yards per reception, you have to wonder whether the ground game isn’t something Fisher ought to utilize him in even more.

Look for an aggressive defense on the part of Los Angeles, and they should have an excellent pass rush, with two defensive lineman in particular – Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn – who are able to get a consistent “push” against the opposition’s offensive line. Here is one statistic that is particularly interesting: Gabbert was sacked 25 times and had 282 attempts last season, while the Rams’ quarterbacks were dumped only 18 times against 473 attempts.

Rams vs 49ers – A Closer Look at the San Francisco 49ers:

And speaking of adjustment, that is what Kelly is forcing on his troops. Of course, he is well-known for the up-tempo, spread-style offense that he used at the University of Oregon and then with the Eagles. He seemed to inherit an ideal quarterback for such an attack, but Colin Kaepernick was apparently not going to be the man, even before all the controversy he has invited. For now, the first-string signal caller is Blaine Gabbert, who was 63% accurate last season, but is journeymen-level at best.

For the Niners, Carlos Hyde is by far the top option at running back, and we do know that Kelly really wants to run the ball. There are not a lot of viable offensive options, although there is potentially a game-breaking receiver in Torrey Smith, who averaged 20 yards per reception last season.

San Francisco lacks personnel at the moment, but the cornerstone of the defense will once again be linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who made an amazing comeback from injury last season. Will there be a lot of bright spots in Santa Clara this year? Well, much of that will depend on whether this team can adapt to the new scheme, and whether they can improve upon their own dismal pass rush. Defensive end DeForest Buckner, who was taken with the first-round pick out of Oregon, could be a big help there.

Rams vs 49ers – Takeaway:

We expect that both teams will be slowed down once again on the surface at Levi’s Stadium, where the Niners held almost everybody below their season scoring average. Thus, going under the posted total of 42.5 points might be the way to go as we continue the Charles Jay “That the Board” Challenge at VietBet, where reduced juice is the rule and customers can conduct all their transactions using Bitcoin, which never includes a fee, has higher limits on deposits, and is all quick and easy through their automated system!
