New York Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers – CJ’s Take:

Ryan Fitzpatrick is now a beleaguered Harvard man, having thrown six interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago and three more against Seattle last Sunday. It is the first time in 30 years that a quarterback has thrown nine interceptions over a two-game stretch. And one may assume that there is an increasing constituency that wants to bring Geno Smith back into the starting position. Apparently those people have short memories, as they don’t recall why many Jets fans were downright giggly when Smith was knocked out in the locker room last year, giving Fitzpatrick the starting job.

The Steelers destroyed Kansas City last Sunday night, as Ben Roethlisberger threw five touchdown passes, and the team got 144 yards on the ground out of Le’Veon Bell, who was coming back from a three-game suspension. These guys are looking good right now. The same can’t be said for the Jets.

Big Ben threw just five incompletions to go with his five touchdown passes last week, and when he faces off against the Jets’ defense, it may be without Darrelle Revis, who had been bothered by a hamstring injury. Let’s see if he does play, which frankly we expect, but will he be good enough to keep up with Antonio Brown out there in the secondary?

Matt Forte rushed 14 times for just 27 yards last week, so obviously the questions arise as to whether this guy is getting close to hitting that “wall” that running backs often do.

The Jets were so good in the red zone last season, and that was a testament to Fitzpatrick. But VietBet patrons who take a look at this year’s stats see that they have converted slightly less than 39% of their red zone opportunities into touchdowns, and when you have to settle for field goals you are really in a disadvantageous situation. By contrast, Pittsburgh is 80% successful in getting touchdowns inside the opponents 20 yard line, as opposed to field-goal attempts.

Eric Decker had to sit out last week’s game with a shoulder injury, and he is also questionable for this game. He was averaging 21.6 yards per reception, so his absence would definitely limit Fitzpatrick’s options out there.

The Jets have been pretty solid in defending the opposition’s running game (3.1 yards per carry allowed), but those who watched last week’s game know that there were a lot of receivers wide open in the secondary for Russell Wilson to feed. And this defense is allowing nine yards per pass attempt, which is the worst figure in the league, and they have also given up more passes that have gone 40 or more yards (seven) than any other team in the NFL.

Next up for both teams:

  • NY Jets visit the Arizona Cardinals Monday, October 17th
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Miami Dolphins Sunday, October 16th

VietBet has it all if you are into attacking the football betting odds with a lot more value. That comes through reduced juice, to you can avoid laying the customary -110, and they give you a lot of payment options, including your Visa card, person-to-person transfers or the virtual currency of Bitcoin!
