The Green Bay Packers have had two rather disappointing results in a row, and the particularly rough part about it is that they have come against teams who, like them, would appear to be prime contenders for a Super Bowl title. The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers were undefeated at the time, but unfortunately for Green Bay, they are now in a tie for the NFC North lead with of the Minnesota Vikings. Detroit comes into this game at 1-7 straight-up, and they had been lousy against the football pointspread, with a 1-6-1 ATS record. It’s been a nightmare almost from the beginning; in the opening game, they took at 21-3 lead over San Diego, and then proceeded to lose that lead and the game. Coming out of the bye week with a 6-0 record, Green Bay had a couple of tough road games against teams that had not tasted defeat. They were thoroughly dominated by the Denver Broncos, losing 29-10 in a game where Aaron Rodgers, the reigning Most Valuable Player, had only 77 passing yards. He was also being stymied the next week against Carolina, as the Packers fell way behind the Panthers, but they did stage a rally and Rodgers had four touchdown passes. Maybe that supplies some momentum coming into this one, as they look to extend the worst drought in any division rivalry in the NFL. Detroit has not won in Green Bay since 1991, and they don’t appear to have the cast of characters to get it done this time.

That’s why the offensive line coach was fired a couple of weeks ago.
Green Bay is 9-2-1 ATS in its last dozen games at Lambeau Field, although this is quite a big number for them to carry. In last year’s Lambeau meeting, the Packers won 30-20 but there really weren’t any huge statistical edges.
