Browns vs Steelers January 1st, 2017 – Week 17 NFL Odds and Preview

Browns vs Steelers January 1st, 2017 Week 17 NFL Odds and PreviewWell, it looks like the monkey is off the back of the Cleveland Browns, who had lost 14 consecutive games this season alone and were hoping they were not headed to the same fate as the 2007 Detroit Lions, who went 0-16 for the complete campaign. So it’s quite possible they will play with a lot less pressure as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the season finale. This game will begin at 1 PM ET on Sunday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, and while CBS is televising the game on a regional basis, VietBet customers, who can get reduced juice on the NFL betting lines before the game, get to keep placing wagers even after the opening kickoff, by utilizing what is available at Live Betting Ultra.

Browns vs Steelers – CJ’s Take:

The Browns only had 251 total yards from scrimmage last week, and they turned San Diego into a one-dimensional squad. It also didn’t hurt that the Chargers missed a field goal attempt as time expired, so they were able to come away with a dramatic 20-17 win. Unfortunately, they had Robert Griffin, the former Heisman Trophy winner, knocked out of the game with a concussion. It’s quite likely that Cody Kessler, who finished up and has already gotten past two concussions this year, will get the start. Cleveland had 124 rushing yards last week, and that is nothing but encouraging. So we will see what they’ll do against a Pittsburgh squad that doesn’t have a whole lot to play for, after a big effort last week in defeating the Baltimore Ravens and clenching the AFC North crown.

This is obviously going to be a different Steelers squad than that which took the field last weekend. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not expected to play, and neither is running back Le’Veon Bell. Landry Jones, who has thrown only 49 passes this season, will get the start behind center. So it’s kind a speculative as to which of the key offensive and defensive players are going to be seeing a lot of action here. The Steelers’ defense had been coming on relatively strong, allowing just 70 points over five games going into the meeting at home against Baltimore. But the 31-27 victory was their sixth in a row, so there is a pretty good shot there going into the post-season with sufficient momentum.

Cleveland is still trying to determine whether Kessler is their “quarterback of the future.” He is not the type who is going to scare a lot of opposing defensive coordinators with his ability to go down the field, but he does keep things rather under control. The rookie out of USC has thrown only two interceptions in 195 attempts, and that makes him one of the least mistake-prone quarterbacks in the league. One of the things that the Browns have to be happy with is the emergence of Terrelle Pryor as a viable receiving option. As VietBet patrons probably remember, Pryor was a legendary high school athlete who went to Ohio State as a quarterback. He also started at that position with the Oakland Raiders, but ultimately it was determined he did not have all the tools to be an NFL signal-caller. He has caught 70 passes for 913 yards for the Browns, so he could be one of the building blocks they use for the future.

We don’t know what the fate of that coach Hue Jackson is going to be; likely he’ll be able to stay on and try to develop this team. Remember that the Browns are probably the one franchise in the league that is going the heaviest into analytics, as they hired Paul Di Podesta, of “Moneyball” fame as a vice president for football operations. They are loaded with draft choices, so it will be intriguing to see what they have in their future. We believe they’ll be playing hard, trying to end Jackson’s first season at the helm on a high note.
