There may be an opportunity here, as the Texans have made a quarterback change. This game begins at 8:25 PM ET at NRG Stadium in Houston, and will be televised by NFL Network. Bengals vs Texans – CJ’s Take:

The Bengals look like they had some signs of life with a two-game winning streak, but it was too little, too late, in reality. That was the only time they put together back-to-back wins this season. You can’t really blame injuries for it, although AJ Green has been missing from the lineup and Giovanni Bernard tore up his knee, taking him out for the duration. A combination of slow decision-making and an offensive line that is lacking has led to 37 sacks of Andy Dalton, and that’s a dangerous statistic when going up against the Houston team that may not have glittering sack numbers (only 24 on the season) but definitely has the athletes to make it happen – namely newly-minted Pro Bowler Jadeveon Clowney.

Houston managed a 21-20 victory at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, but it should not have been that close. Brock Osweiler, the high-priced quarterback who came to town with a lot of expectations, has not fulfilled them, and after an erratic start he was benched in favor of Tom Savage, who has seen little action as an NFL signal-caller. But he rallied the team against the mistake-laden Jaguars, and head coach Bill O’Brien is giving him the opportunity to play this week.

The Bengals have to be encouraged by the return of Green to the lineup. And that’s because the other alternatives they have at the wide receiver spot are none too explosive. Green has caught 66 passes for 964 yards, so if he is close to 100% he’ll threaten the Houston secondary. But those considering the Cincinnati side must be cautioned – the Texans have allowed only 5.5 yards per attempt on the season, and they have intercepted 16 passes.

Osweiler had been intercepted 16 times, so obviously he has not given Houston a good return on its investment. VietBet patrons may not know that much about Savage, but he was a highly-regarded talent coming out of high school who first went to Rutgers, then transferred to Pittsburgh. He made sure he targeted DeAndre Hopkins plenty last Sunday; in fact, he threw it Hopkins’ way 17 times, with eight conversions for 87 yards. That’s more production then he has had most weeks. Some of the other components of the Houston attack have been more than adequate, including running back Lamar Miller (1073 yards).

It would seem this is a real live audition for Savage, since one can’t imagine the Texans going far in the playoffs with Osweiler at the helm. Yes, this does seem an unusual time to be making a change at the most important position, but O’Brien has to do something to wake up this offense which has topped 24 points only once this season. Currently the Texans are 8-6 straight-up (6-7-1 ATS), and they are tied with the Tennessee Titans for first place in the AFC South. They will meet up with Tennessee next Sunday, with the division title on the line. The Bengals are 5-8-1 straight-up and a dismal 4-10 against the football pointspread.
