In case you’re not aware of it, the NFL’s all-star game, better known as the Pro Bowl, has taken on a decidedly different face in recent years. Instead of something that pits the AFC against the NFC, it is now kind of like a schoolyard game, with a bunch of players thrown into a pool and then selected by either of the two captains, former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice and former Dallas Cowboy pass-catcher Michael Irvin. The two games played under this format have been close, so perhaps we get some entertainment in this game that kicks off at 7 PM ET at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. Thus, the Giants’ Eli Manning and Odell Beckham will probably have a considerable amount of time on the field together, as they were both selected by Team Rice. Also, quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Amari Cooper of the Oakland Raiders are part of Rice’s team. As a sidelight, Beckham and his college teammate and friend, Jarvis Landry of the Miami Dolphins, will probably be paired pretty often in the lineup. Well, let’s put it this way – there are only three wide receivers on Rice’s team. And the third one is TY Hilton of the Indianapolis Colts.

Landry, for example, came onto the team as a replacement. An unusual amount of players back out of the game, citing one reason or another. Of course, the to produce offense in the Super Bowl will not be represented, and that left a big hole in the case of the Carolina Panthers, who had 10 players selected for this game.
