Packers vs Cowboys – CJ’s Take:

The Cowboys, with rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott playing pivotal roles, traveled to storied Lambeau Field on October 16 and came away with a 30-16 victory. Prescott committed two turnovers, but he also threw for three touchdowns, and even though Green Bay went into that game allowing the fewest rushing yards in the league, Elliott torched them for 157 yards. That was basically the difference in the ball game. Later on, the Packers went through a four-game losing streak, as the defense fell apart from injuries, and the low point had to be back-to-back games on the road against Tennessee and Washington, they gave up a total of 89 points. The secondary has gotten a little bit healthier, but injuries still remain an issue. What’s been different is the play of two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who has completely taken control the situation.

Rodgers has thrown for 22 touchdowns without an interception over the last eight games, and the last seven of those have been victories. Four different playoff teams have been vanquished along the way, including the New York Giants, who went into their wild-card playoff game with three All-Pr’s in the secondary, but gave up 331 yards through the air and 38 points to the Packers.

One unfortunate piece of news for Green Bay coming into this one is that they might have to play without wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who injured his ribs in the second quarter of last week’s game. Nelson is Rodgers’ favorite target, and it really hurt last season when Nelson had to sit out the entire campaign with a knee injury. This year he came back like gangbusters, catching 97 passes for 1257 yards and 14 touchdowns. But it’s going to be touch-and-go with him, as word coming out of the camp is that the coaching staff will wait and see if he can practice with them on Saturday before making a determination as to his fitness for Sunday’s action.

If he can’t go, the Packers will do what they been doing for years – improvising. It’s good for them that Randall Cobb is healthy are now, and he caught three touchdowns last week, including a great Hail Mary right before the half that pretty much broke the Giants’ back. VietBet patrons also know that Davante Adams has been superb (75 catches, 997 yards, 12 touchdowns) and tight end Jared Cook has become a key performer. Ty Montgomery, the recently-minted main backfield option, injured his ankle last week, but later returned, and Christine Michael played very well in a reserve role.

Elliott led the league with 1631 yards on the ground, and Prescott had a nifty ratio of 23 touchdowns to just four interceptions, with a 104.9 passer rating, which is phenomenal for rookie. The Cowboys tied their franchise record for victories in the season, and for this game they have Dez Bryant available, and he was not there at Lambeau. The weakness may be in the secondary, as the Cowboys allowed 67% completions to the opponent, giving up 25 touchdown passes. A lot of people feel that Rodgers is on such a roll right now that ideal playing conditions, such as he’ll get indoors at AT&T Stadium, can only serve him better.
