2018 Chicago Bears Odds – NFC North Betting Preview

2018 Chicago Bears Odds NFC North Betting PreviewWell, it was clear that John Fox had worn out his welcome in the Windy City, so the Chicago Bears, who had already inserted their quarterback of the future, went for new coaching blood in the off-season. VietBet customers will see Matt Nagy, the former offensive coordinator in Kansas City, pacing the sidelines this season, and he’s got his work cut out for him, with one of the worst attacks in the NFL.

Last year the Bears were ranked 30th in the league, amassing only 287 yards per game, and of course part of that involved the indoctrination of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who had been taken second in the NFL Draft. He had seven touchdowns, seven interceptions and 2183 yards through the air, and there is no question about the fact that this group of receivers needed to be upgraded.

To the Bears’ credit, they have made an honest effort in that direction. One of these players is a bit of an injury risk, as Allen Robinson, who had some good seasons in Jacksonville, is coming off a year where he had a torn ACL. If he gets back to 100%, he could be Trubisky’s main target. And then there is Taylor Gabriel, a speed merchant who could be working out of the slot. Last year’s leading pass-catcher, Kendall Wright, who had 59 receptions but only one touchdown, went off to division rival Minnesota.

This offensive line probably needs a little more work; they don’t block badly for the run, but it is of utmost importance to protect their sophomore quarterback. Second-round draft pick James Daniels of Iowa might fit immediately into the starting left guard position. Nagy is going to employ a variation of the West Coast offense, using a lot of run-pass options, and Trubisky might find a decent short-range target in Trey Burton, who was an unlikely hero in the Super Bowl. Tight end certainly was an area that had to be addressed, because of the injury to Zach Miller.

The good news is that the defense wasn’t all that bad last season. Chicago actually ranked 10th in the league in total defense, and that is kind of unusual for a squad that was just 5-11. They were in the top 10 both against the pass and the run. The top draft choice is a great talent. Linebacker Roquan Smith was the leader of the defense for national runner-up Georgia, and it’s quite likely that he will come in and start right away. Aaron Lynch, an outside linebacker, might have a chance to revitalize himself as he reunites with Vic Fangio, who was kept on board by Nagy. What the Bears have to do is block better, and they will need a big step forward from Trubisky if they are to be competitive in this division
