TCU vs Kansas State: Winner May Get to the Playoff

By Charles Jay

In the Big 12 conference, it doesn’t get much bigger than the game they’re about to have this Saturday night in Fort Worth, as the TCU Horned Frogs, who have ridden an explosive offense to the point where they can actually contend for a national title, play host to the Kansas State Wildcats, in the game that will in all likelihood crown the conference champion. Not only that, we could see the winner of this game make it to the four-team playoff for all the marbles. Kickoff time in football betting action at VietBet takes place at 7:30 PM ET.

TCU is ranked sixth in the latest Associated Press poll, and is seventh in the coaches’ poll. In the Playoff Rankings, the Horned Frogs are #6 in the country. Kansas State is right behind them, not to mention #9 in both major polls. Each of these teams has one defeat – TCU lost 61-58 at Baylor when they lost a 21-point lead in the final minutes. Kansas State’s defeat at home to Auburn was much less dramatic (20-14). The irony of this whole situation is that Kansas State might yet get another crack at the War Eagle, if both of these teams wind up in the playoffs. Auburn is currently ranked #3.

College football betting Line TCU vs Kansas State: TCU is the favorite at home:

  • TCU Horned Frogs -6
  • Kansas State Wildcats +6
  • Over 57.5 points -110
  • Under 57.5 points -110

When you think of Kansas State, you think of a team that does not do a lot of things to beat itself, which is generally characteristic of Bill Snyder-coached clubs. They hardly ever get penalized; in fact, only Navy has incurred fewer penalty yards on a per-game basis. And Kansas has only turned the ball over seven times this season, which would seem to mitigate one of the strengths of TCU, which leads the nation in turnover margin.

VietBet customers know that the offensive approach on the part of each team is a bit different. TCU coach Gary Patterson made the decision to go more wide-open with his offense, in keeping with some of the other powerful squads in the Big 12, including the likes of Oklahoma and Baylor. This necessitated great production out of the quarterback position. And the guy who emerged as the starter out of spring drills was Trevone Boykin, who had been playing wide receiver for the most part for this team.

Boykin has responded so well that he can be mentioned as a legitimate darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidate, with 22 touchdown passes. As one would expect, he is also very nimble when it comes to evading a pass rush. And he had the game of his life a couple of weeks ago against Texas Tech, throwing for seven touchdowns as TCU, which is very much into playing the run-it-up-for-rankings game, dropped 82 points on Texas Tech. However, he went ice cold last week at West Virginia, which was kind of unexpected. Boykin completed just 12 of his 30 passes, although one of them was a 40-yard strike down the field on the final drive that led to the winning field goal in what were considerably less than favorable weather conditions.

VietBet patrons know that Bill Snyder is a bit more conservative with his Kansas State offense. But Jake Waters gives him what he wants at the quarterback position – a guy who really minimizes turnovers. In fact, Waters has not thrown an interception in conference play yet this season. And he may have the best weapon on the field in wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who is sure to get some All-America mention and who is on the verge of breaking his father’s career records for receiving yardage and touchdown catches at K-State.
