Super Bowl 52 Odds and Analysis – Making a Case For the Philadelphia Eagles

Super Bowl 52 Odds and Analysis Making a Case For the Philadelphia EaglesAdmittedly, the Philadelphia Eagles are at something of a handicap as they go into Super Bowl 52 against the New England Patriots. After all, when you don’t have your regular quarterback – a guy who had such a good season that he was considered a front-runner for the MVP award – you can’t consider yourself to be at full strength. The absence of key individuals doesn’t stop there, however, and the Eagles have done very well for themselves getting to the Big Game, as they have won straight-up twice in the playoffs as a home underdog. Things get underway at 6:30 PM ET at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and customers at VietBet can get reduced juice beforehand, and plenty of in-game wagering options, including Live Betting Ultra.

Super Bowl 52 Odds and Analysis Making a Case For the Philadelphia Eagles

Nick Foles is a guy who has been around, and he has actually been the MVP of the Pro Bowl as recently as four seasons ago, but it was still quite a bummer when he had to be inserted into the lineup to replace Carson Wentz, who was having that MVP award but suffered a knee injury. Wentz had a commanding presence, even in just his second season, and he also had an instinctive ability to extend plays. Foles stumbled at first, but he seemed to find himself over the two playoff games against Atlanta and Minnesota, during which he completed 49 of 63 passes.

It would appear obvious that the first hurdle the Eagles have to clear is to somehow manage to keep Tom Brady under control. The Patriots’ signal-caller is after his sixth Super Bowl crown, and he indeed elevates his game when it comes to the fourth quarter, as he has a passer rating of 138.0. Can the Eagles match up fundamentally with this New England crew that has so much experience in these big game situations? What could give them a really good chance here? That is something well worth exploring.

One of the reasons the Eagles can present themselves with a good chance to win is that they can do certain things in support of Foles; namely running the football. And if there is a weakness on the part of the Patriots, it is that you can run right at them; they allowed 4.6 yards a carry this season. How high is that? Well, only one team in the entire NFL allowed more. Philadelphia is fortunate to be in a position where they can always send a fresh running back into battle, whether it’s Corey Clement, Jay Ajayi, or the ex-Patriot, LeGarrette Blount, and all of them can run with authority.

And the Eagles are capable of doing something that has bothered Brady very much in the past, especially when it comes to Super Bowl competition. They can get some pressure up the middle on the pass rush. What does this accomplish? Well, when Brady drops back to pass, and he is pressured, generally he is able to step up in the pocket and make a throw. But when he isn’t able to do something like that, he has to then move to the outside, where he is considerably less comfortable. And Fletcher Cox, one of the absolute best defensive tackles in the business, is also one of the best when it comes to getting a “push” that could collapse the pocket. The Eagles have been successful in applying “pressure” situations to quarterbacks, even without having to blitz. There is no reason to believe they can’t do that.

And Foles looked like a cool customer against Minnesota two weeks ago, with a 147.9 QB rating when he was pressured. It looks like he is much more comfortable with the offense than he was when he first took over the starting job. If he can operate with some confidence in the red zone, where Philly receivers have caught 69.4% of the passes thrown their way this season, the Eagles could be soon trying on their championship rings.
