Penn State vs Michigan Odds October 21st, 2017 College Football Betting PreviewFor the Penn State Nittany Lions, things couldn’t be going any better right now; they are undefeated through six games (covering four of them against the football pointspread) and look very much like the best team in the Big Ten at the moment. Of course, there’s a long way to go, but if they can win the conference championship, you’re going to most likely see them in the four-team college football playoff. Can they be derailed by the Michigan Wolverines? Well, Michigan hasn’t been going in the most positive direction lately, but they got a pretty good recent history against the Nittany Lions, so they will test the home team in a Saturday night game that begins at 7:30 PM ET at Beaver Stadium in University Park. Penn State vs Michigan Odds – College Football Betting Preview

Not only is their motivation for Penn State to maintain its national ranking, which is now up to #2 in the nation following Clemson’s surprising loss to Syracuse, but there is also a payback angle in this one as well. Last season the Nittany Lions were thoroughly dominated by Jim Harbaugh’s team, managing just 191 yards in a 49-10 shellacking. They were completely smacked around at the line of scrimmage, as Michigan had 326 rushing yards. So naturally they are looking to reverse that situation in a big way.

Now we must confess that the loss to Michigan came very early in the Penn State schedule, and they turned things around under James Franklin, to the point where they actually won the Big Ten championship game over Wisconsin. And even though they were a little upset that Ohio State, whom they had beaten, advanced into the playoff, we wonder whether a lot of people would have expected PSU to get to the Rose Bowl so quickly. Yes, they lost to Sam Darnold and USC, but there’s been some huge progress.

As we mentioned, Penn State is second in both major polls, while Michigan is 15th in the Coaches’ poll and 19th with the Associated Press.

Michigan has suffered through an injury to starting quarterback Wilson Speight, which pressed John O’Korn into action. Now that should not have been a huge handicap, since O’Korn has starting college experience when he was playing at the University of Houston, in addition to his time with the Wolverines. But he just didn’t click against Indiana Hoosiers last time out, as he completed just 10 out of his 20 passes with the paltry total of 58 yards. This was a contributing factor to Michigan having to go to overtime to eke out the 27-20 victory. Good thing for the Wolverines that they had 271 yards on the ground, but Penn State is not going to be so generous, as they give up just 3.1 yards per rushing attempt.

VietBet patrons are obviously much more impressed with Trace McSorley, who has been a work in progress since he’s come to Penn State, and you can’t argue much with a guy who has completed two-thirds of his passes on the season. And as Penn State hammered Northwestern 31-7 a couple of weeks ago, he hit 15 consecutive passes during one stretch. Obviously has the top weapon on the field at his disposal, as we’re talking about Saquon Barkley, who can go coast-to-coast running out of the backfield, but also averages 13.6 yards per catch. Barkley is also a standout returning kicks, so does not have to have great rushing numbers to make a huge impact on a game

Remember one thing, however; Harbaugh has been able to figure out this Penn State offense rather easily the last three seasons, as Michigan has held the Nittany Lions to just over 200 yards per game in winning the last three meetings. Considering that the biggest test the Nittany Lions have had was a nail-biter with Iowa, which they fortunately won 21-19, we might be well-advised to take the points.
