Patriots vs Bears Odds – NFL Odds and Game Preview

Patriots vs Bears Odds 2018 Week 7 NFL Betting PreviewThe New England Patriots certainly got some payback last week when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs, but it was not easy, as they blew a 15-point lead and had to scramble for the game-winning field goal. It wasn’t necessarily a situation where they were explosive either, and this week they will face a whole new level of defense as they travel to the Windy City for a game against the Chicago Bears, which begins at 1 PM ET on Sunday at Soldier Field. CBS will televise, and remember that if you are a customer at VietBet, you can get reduced juice before the game, so you can get a better price, and Live Betting Ultra throughout the day, with real-time wagering.

Patriots vs Bears Odds – CJ’s Take

Obviously one of the encouraging things about the New England offense these days is that they have been bolstered recently with the addition of wide receivers Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman. Edelman, of course, is Tom Brady’s favorite possession receiver, and Gordon is the guy who can go down the field. Sony Michel is also someone who has been developing into something of a workhorse running back. If Brady can spread the ball around, he can be much more effective.

The Bears had a real time of it last week in Miami, as they went back and forth with a Dolphin team that had to use Brock Osweiler at quarterback. Well, Chicago gave up 380 yards through the air to Osweiler, coming out on the short end of a 31-28 overtime loss. Were some of their vulnerabilities exposed?

Chicago comes into this game with a 3-2 record (both straight-up and against the spread), and skeptics look at their three-game winning streak by saying that they be relatively weak teams (Seattle, Arizona, Tampa Bay). Maybe that will ultimately prove to be true, but there is no mistaking the fact that Khalil Mack makes a real difference in this defense. The Bears had 18 sacks, and they put a lot of pressure on the passer. What they would like to do is to make Brady very uncomfortable in the pocket, and to do that, they might try to get a push up the middle, making him go to one side or the other, therefore cutting down the space on the field he can actually throw to. Remember that Brady is one quarterback who loves to throw over the middle, and if he can get Rob Gronkowski loose, that’s going to be a big bonus for him. Gronk leads the team with 15.6 yards per catch. But the Chicago linebackers, including Mack and rookie Roquan Smith, may have what it takes to neutralize him.

Mitchell Trubisky has been a pretty quick study in head coach Matt Nagy’s new approach to offense, which includes giving him a lot of run-pass options. Trubisky has thrown 11 touchdown passes and is 70% accurate, and it’s like night and day in terms of the Bears’ crew of receivers. At the same time, however, there aren’t a lot of deep threats, and that is something that can make things a little bit easier on the New England defense.

What was a little alarming about the Patriots last week was their vulnerability to big plays, and also some of the decisions that were made. Against a team like Kansas City, you can’t really afford to trade field goals for touchdowns. Maybe that will work against Chicago, but let’s note that the Bears are currently on a run of 8-1-1 ATS as a home underdog. We consider them very dangerous in this situation.
