Alabama vs LSU – CJ’s Take:

Alabama is ranked in the top spot across the board, and that includes the Playoff Rankings, which are the most important factor in determining who is going to be in the four-team college football playoff. LSU is ranked #14 in the coaches’ poll, #15 by the Associated Press and #13 in the playoff rankings.

Nick Saban is at it again with a first-year quarterback. He has won national titles three times with QB’s who were playing in their first season, and Jalen Hurts is the most nimble of the lot, as he has already gained 521 yards on the ground. He has also thrown for 1578 yards and a dozen TD’s. The Tide, who won the national title last year, is currently on a 20-game winning streak.

You can’t say enough about the job coach Ed Orgeron has done in the interim role with LSU, as he has re-invigorated the attitude around the Baton Rouge. What he has promoted is the idea of having a “new season,” and thus far his Bayou Bengals have been undefeated in this “new season,” with runaway victories over Missouri, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss. And the Tigers have benefited from the change at the quarterback position, as Brendan Harris was benched, and replaced by Purdue transfer Danny Etling, who is a more accomplished passer, completing 60.5% of his throws with seven TD’s.

It should be noted that this change was made before Orgeron, who had previously been the defensive line coach before taking over the head job following the firing of Les Miles, who some LSU observers claim took place a little too late and not too early.

Many VietBet patrons know that Orgeron is well-traveled, having been, among other things, the defensive line coach with the University of Miami, Syracuse University, and the New Orleans Saints, not to mention the head coach at Ole Miss. And he knows current Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin very well, having served under him as assistant head coach at Tennessee, then going with him as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at USC. Orgeron took over as interim coach when Kiffin was fired from that job.

In this particular instance, Orgeron may be coaching for his job on an extended basis. A win over a team like Alabama can do that for a guy, especially if it makes some sort of difference in the SEC race. Remember that while LSU is 5-2 (3-4 ATS), it has lost only one conference game.

Leonard Fournette, a Heisman Trophy candidate, will have to give LSU more than he did in last year’s 30-16 loss to the Crimson Tide, as he gained only 31 yards. Alabama, which has 64 tackles for loss this season, has allowed just 2.2 yards per rushing attempt. By the way, Saban’s team also has 32 sacks and nine defensive touchdowns, both of which lead the nation.
