Ravens vs Patriots – CJ’s Take:

The Ravens turned out to have a pretty good matchup situation with the Miami Dolphins, holding Jay Ajayi to just 61 yards and intercepting Ryan Tannehill three times. With the 38-6 victory, they managed to break Miami’s six-game winning streak. And they are still, technically, the first-place team in the AFC North. New England has won three consecutive games since a home loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but those victories have come against the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams. Those were weak offensive teams, and now they go against a squad that is not necessarily an offensive juggernaut, but got 381 passing yards out of Joe Flacco last week – something that was very encouraging.

The Ravens are 7-5 straight-up (6-6 against the football pointspread), while the Pats are 10-2 straight-up and 9-3 ATS, and are the #2 seed in the AFC right now, because the Oakland Raiders own a tie-breaker edge.

The Patriots will not have Gronkowski in the lineup anymore, and that is a big blow to what they like to do best on offense. Gronk had averaged 21.6 yards per catch, which is phenomenal for a tight end. Remember that these guys want to run a two-tight end set, and they are a tight end short, although Martellus Bennett (544 yards, four TD’s) will be able to do a certain amount of damage on his own. No one expects that the Patriots will not adapt, one way or another, and Tom Brady will always have a number of people to throw to. This includes running back James White, who has caught 47 passes thus far. And when he isn’t on the receiving end of Brady’s “long handoffs,” Dion Lewis is now available.

Baltimore will need all the defense it can get, and that is why they have to be happy that cornerback Jimmy Smith has come back into the lineup. The Ravens have allowed just 6.1 yards per pass attempt and have registered 14 interceptions, and VietBet customers should know that Baltimore has yielded fewer yards per drive than any other team in the league.

Brady has been deadly accurate since he came back from his four-game suspension, however. He’s thrown only a single interception in 302 attempts, which is amazing. And for what it’s worth, his per-attempt average (8.2 yards) is more than a yard and a half higher than that of Flacco (6.6), which indicates how well they execute in an offense that asks receivers to run with the ball after they catch it. But can the Patriots run anything resembling a power running game with LeGarrette Blount (957 yards, 13 TD’s)? Baltimore has surrendered just 74 yards a game on the ground and 3.4 yards per carry.
