Aaron Rodgers broke his right collarbone on October 15, and the team struggled in his absence, although admittedly Brett Hundley got more comfortable running the offense. Specifically, Hundley has led this team to consecutive victories, and that those came against Tampa Bay and Cleveland doesn’t diminish the fact that this team got over the .500 mark. Things got pretty hairy against the Browns, however, as the Packers had to overcome of 14-point deficit in the final quarter and then when it in overtime. He has really emerged, with 69 receptions, and there’s a pretty good chance he’ll go over the 1000-yard plateau before the season is over.
The Panthers captured a big home victory last weekend when they beat Minnesota 31-24. They were able to intercept Case Keenum twice,andin they got three touchdowns for running back Jonathan Stewart, including a 60-yard scamper. Much of the story this season for Carolina involves defense, and any team with 40 sacks is always going to be dangerous for a quarterback who is coming off an injury. That’s the situation with Rodgers, who has been cleared to play. Hundley has actually thrown more passes than Rodgers has the season, although Rodgers has the 103.2 quarterback rating, with only three interceptions in 193 attempts.
What the Packers have to do is to get something that’s even semi-consistent going on the ground. Aaron Jones, whose only carry against Tampa Bay couple of weeks ago was the winning touchdown in overtime, didn’t gain any yards last weekend. Jamaal Williams scored two touchdowns against Cleveland, but he’s only averaging 3.6 yards per carry. The most significant part of Rodgers’ return might involve his favorite receiver.
