Rockets Have Matchup Problems to Overcome Against Warriors

By Charles Jay

The Houston Rockets are very gleeful from their unlikely comeback from being down three games to one in the Western Conference semi-finals against the Los Angeles Clippers, but there is no time to celebrate, especially when you have a team in front of you that, well, had your number and then some.

Vietbet customers who follow NBA betting closely know that the Rockets had no luck at all against the team with the league’s best record – the Golden State Warriors – who not only were the lone squad in the circuit to beat Houston FOUR times, but did so by an average of 15.2 points per game.

Certainly a season series has not always been a perfect barometer as to what is going to happen in a best-of-seven playoff set, but as these clubs gather for action in the Western finals (with the winner advancing to the NBA Finals series), coach Kevin McHale has got to be thinking that he needs to implement something different than he did in the regular season.

Here are the NBA playoff odds for Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets as they are posted at Vietbet:

Golden State Warriors -850
Houston Rockets +575

Certainly that does not suggest a lot of confidence on the part of the oddsmaker toward the chances of the Rockets, who, it is safe to say, had to expend a bit more energy in their previous series.

Let’s offer a quick review: Golden State, which was the league’s highest-scoring team, has shot 50%, 55% and 49% in the last three meetings, and in the encounter in which they had an “off” night (hitting only 45%), they held the Rockets to just 35% from the field. Oh, did we mention that the Warriors also held their opponents to the lowest shooting percentage in the NBA – 42.8%?

The Houston mindset at this time, however, has to be one of never giving up, as was illustrated in Game 6 of their series with the Clippers, where they went into the fourth quarter trailing by 13 points in an elimination situation and wound up winning by twelve. The 40-15 advantage over the final twelve minutes was something that may have astounded some Vietbet patrons, who had seen the team lay down twice at the Staples Center, losing by a total of 58 points.

Of course, not showing up on the road is something that would have to scare Rockets’ followers. On top of everything else, Golden State was the NBA’s most dominant team at home, compiling a 39-2 regular season mark. And when you have to oppose a team that exhibits such great ball movement as the Warriors do, it would give you more confidence if you didn’t go into the series as the 12th most efficient defensive team out of sixteen who made the playoffs.

Whatever success Memphis had against Golden State was predicated upon being able to control the pace and get physical. The Warriors were first in the NBA in the “Pace” category (possessions per 48 minutes) with 98.3, but Houston was second (96.5). While this means the Rockets can probably run with Golden State, it also means that they may not be able to go quite fast enough, and that they aren’t well prepared to cramp the Warriors’ style.
