Falcons Patriots Odds – Week 7 NFL Betting Preview

The Falcons were up 17-0 against a Miami Dolphins squad that had been struggling quite a bit offensively, and at home no less, but they managed to allow 20 unanswered points and lose. So after beating Green Bay to open up their new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta has lost consecutive home games to Buffalo and Miami. Now they hit the road, against a Patriots squad that might be 4-2 straight-up (2-4 ATS), but has not been a juggernaut, especially on the defensive side.

Interestingly enough, every quarterback New England has faced this season has thrown for at least 300 yards, and we have never seen that in the NFL before. It is true that the Pats suffered some attrition on defense, particularly in the off-season, but Bill Belichick is supposed to be someone with the defensive mind; indeed, he was defensive coordinator for New York Giants teams that won the Super Bowl. The last couple of games have provided some encouragement, as they held the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 14 points and the New York Jets to 17. But New England lost its last home game to Carolina by a 33-30 count, and that happened because they could not stop Cam Newton.

You can’t really blame Tom Brady for the Patriots’ troubles. He’s having another stellar season, throwing 13 touchdown passes against only two interceptions. If you recall last season’s performance, he had a 28-2 ratio of TDs to picks, so the opposition can’t count on many mistakes coming from him. He’s done his best to make the most of his receiver corps, even without Julian Edelman. Brandin Cooks, who came over from the New Orleans Saints, is averaging almost 20 yards a catch, and tight end Rob Gronkowski (15.4 yards per reception) came back from injury last time out to catch two touchdown passes. Brady, after a slow start, found his way against Atlanta’s secondary in the Super Bowl, throwing for 466 yards.

VietBet patrons are still looking for the first touchdown reception for Julio Jones this season, although he is not necessarily having a down year, with 367 yards. But Matt Ryan, who won the MVP last season, has six interceptions to go with six touchdown passes, and that is not what most people envisioned. However, that’s what some skeptics were projecting as the worst-case scenario, as Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator who had really gotten on the same page with Ryan, took off for the head-coaching job in San Francisco and Steve Sarkisian took over his duties.

At the very least, we should see some offense in this one – the Patriots are allowing 4.7 yards per carry and 8.3 yards per pass, and the Falcons can most certainly move the ball on the ground, with the combination of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. Atlanta has played 18 games over the total in their last 24.
