The Bucs got some bad luck in the kicking game once again last week. At quarterback, James Winston is completing 61% of his passes, and that’s a little better than what Carson Palmer is doing for the Cardinals. Palmer is really under siege this season, because his offensive line is crumbling and is running game doesn’t exist. He has been sacked 17 times already, and you have to wonder how long he can continue to take it.
Doug Martin, who had been on a suspension, was eligible to play last week and had 74 yards on the ground. To put that in perspective, Arizona’s leading rusher on the season is Chris Johnson with only 93. This gives you an idea the magnitude of the Cardinals’ loss of David Johnson, who had to have wrist surgery. He might be one of the five most valuable players in the league, and Arizona has had no luck in picking up the slack at all.
As a result, 183 passing plays have been run, compared to just 86 rushing plays. So this is the antithesis of a balanced offense. And all indications are that it will continue to be. The big hope for Palmer and his receivers is that Tampa Bay continues to be banged-up on the defensive side, although reports are that they are healthier now.
